FULLY ASSEMBLED AND READY FOR DISPLAY. THE SHIP IS 31"
long x 27" high x 7" wide and made from mahogany and teak. HISTORY
OF HARVEYDuring the War of 1812 a class of U.S. warships emerged out of Chesapeake
Bay. These schooners were lightly gunned, sleek and very fast. They could sail almost directly into the wind at
full speed! The ships were used to overtake and capture British merchants laden with cargo to support the British forces
who were then attempting to recapture the former colonies. After that, the American clippers really came into their
own when California was incorporated as a State of the Union in 1848. When it was discovered that California was a state of tremendous natural wealth a rush was on to transport
goods including gold after it was discovered in California. This could best be met traveling by sea (much less
perilous than the journey over land) and using very fast ships such as the Clippers to run blockades and transport
valuable cargo from New York to San Francisco by way of Cape Horn and back.

$499.00
INCLUDES FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE LOWER 48 STATES ONLY. ESMERALDA - Esmeralda is the second
tallest and longest sailing ship in the world and one of the world’s most magnificent sailing ships.
She has participated in tall ship events throughout the world won the "Cutty Sark" trophy award and has rounded
Cape Horn under sail seven times. (one of the most hazardous shipping routes in the world and referred to "the graveyard"
for ships).
Construction began in Cádiz, Spain, in 1946. She was intended to become Spain's national training ship. During her construction
in 1947 the yard in which she was being built suffered catastrophic explosions, which damaged the ship and placed the yard
on the brink of bankruptcy. Work on the ship was temporarily halted. In 1950 Chile and Spain entered into negotiations in which Spain offered to repay debts incurred to Chile
as a result of the Spanish Civil War in the form of manufactured products, including the not yet completed Esmeralda.
Chile accepted the offer and the ship was formally transferred to the ownership of Chile in 1951. Work then continued on the
ship. She was finally launched on 12 May 1953 before an audience of 5,000 people. Her sister ship is the training ship for the Spanish Navy, the schooner
Juan Sebastián
Elcano (see my J.S. Elcano model).

1787 with Captain William Bligh and a crew of 45 men bound for Tahiti. Their mission was to collect breadfruit
plants to be transplanted in the West Indies as cheap food for the slaves. After collecting those plants,
Bounty was underway toward home, when, on the morning of April 28, 1789, Fletcher Christian and part of the crew mutinied,
took over the ship, and set the Captain and 18 members of the crew adrift in the ship’s 23-foot launch. The Captain
sailed the launch and 17 of the crew 3618 miles back to civilization. The mutineers took HMS Bounty back to Tahiti, and, with
6 Polynesian men and 12 women, took the ship to the isolated site at Pitcairn Island. After burning the ship and a violent
beginning, they established a settlement and colony on Pitcairn Island that still exists.

HMS ENDEAVOUR - In the years 1768-1771, British sailor Captain James Cook
used the Endeavour to sail the Pacific Ocean, map
New Zealand and survey the eastern coast of Australia. Captain Cook discovered New Zealand and the East Coast of Australia and claimed both
for Britain. He was also the first person to circumnavigate the world in both directions. His
ship was HMS Endeavour. Endeavour eventually ended up becoming part of the British fleet used during the
Revolutionary War.
HMS Endeavour was intentionally sunk by the British in Newport
Harbor, Rhode Island in 1778 to keep French ships from landing to aid the Americans' drive for independence. The American/French rebellion
against the British failed. Four ships from a British fleet used during the U.S. Revolutionary War have been found off Rhode Island,
and one may be the vessel 18th century explorer Captain James Cook sailed on his epic voyage to Australia, archaeologists
said today.
Researchers with the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project said they believe the four ships, and
two others previously discovered, are part of a 13-vessel transport fleet intentionally sunk by the British in Newport Harbor in 1778 to keep French ships from landing to aid the Americans' drive for independence.
The archaeologists say one of the 13 ships in the
sunken British fleet was the Lord Sandwich, which records show was once the Endeavour but Archaeologists say it is unclear
which ship could be the Endeavour. Seven of the ships in the British fleet have not been found but the
archaeologists say the latest find raises the chances that one of the discovered ships is the Endeavour. According to the executive director of the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project there is a 47 per cent chance that
we have our hands on the Endeavour. It may take years to fully investigate the shipwrecks. Using historical materials and sonar, the archaeologists discovered the
ships in Narragansett Bay, about a kilometer off
Newport. They also found at least
one cannon, an anchor with a five-meter shank and a cream-colored fragment of an 18th century British ceramic teapot.Historically, the finding is significant because it helps tell the story
of the siege of Newport, marking France's first attempt to aid the American insurrection against the British. The shipwrecks are Rhode Island property and
there are no plans to raise them.Officials estimate
more than two dozen ships from the Revolutionary War period lie beneath Rhode Island's waters. They include British Royal Navy frigates, vessels from the Continental
Navy and a French ship.
