ATLANTIC - 1903  - Atlantic was probably the best known schooner ever built in the United States and the beautiful yacht was admired by everyone who saw her.  She was considered one of the most beautiful schooners ever built.

In 1905, 11 luxury yachts were invited to race the Kaiser's Cup, a race across the atlantic ocean, at the invitation of German Kaiser Wilhelm II.  Among these yachts was the sleek three-masted schooner Atlantic, measuring 185 feet in length, weighing 206 tons and carrying 18,000 feet of sail.  Her winning finish time of 12 days, four hours, one minute, and 19 seconds (indicates an average of well over 200 miles per day for the entire trip and on one day logged 341 miles) is a record so remarkable that in the past two decades numerous owners and syndicates have sent lightweight racing yachts over the course and failed to beat her record. The record went unbeaten for over 80 years.

Atlantic lasted into the late 1970s and in 1997, the New York Yacht Club hosted the "Atlantic Challenge" race for large cruising yachts in memory of Atlantic.

Assembly required, lift up the masts, sails and rigging attached, set the masts in place and adjust the tension on the rigging.  Can be done in 15 minutes.

ENDEAVOUR

From the moment she was launched in 1934, Endeavour was hailed as the most beautiful J-Class yacht ever built.
When she returned to England after participating in the America’s Cup race she continued to dominate the British racing scene until 1938 when she was laid up for the duration of World War II.

Endeavor suffered many indignities, sold for scrap in 1947; she was saved just hours before her scheduled demolition.   During the 70's she sank in the
Medina River in Cowes, and again, at the eleventh hour, she was bought for ten pounds British sterling by two carpenters who patched the holes in her hull with plastic bags and she was refloated. In the early 80's she was stored in an abandoned seaplane base. Despite all of the neglect Endeavor managed to survive until Elizabeth Meyer of Newport Rhode Island brought her in 1984. After a five-year $10 million dollar restoration to her former splendor Endeavour sailed again on June 22, 1989 for the first time in fifty-two years.

Endeavour is now owned by a private corporation and used as a charter boat.  It’s said,

“Endeavour is a magnificent sight when under full sail and one of the most powerful yachts in the Caribbean. This high performance is matched by her truly elegant accommodation and extremely high standard of catering, service and facilities. She has 9 person crew.

"Endeavour" - 1988 & 2001
"Velsheda" - 1997 & 2001
"Shamrock V" - 2000-2001

Now all three of these magnificent craft are again racing together and can be seen at specialist venues around the World.  All three came together in the summer of 2001 for the America's Cup Jubilee Regatta, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the original race.

During the race, yacht after beautiful yacht kept passing by and then finally the most majestic yachts of all time, the three remaining J-Class yachts, Shamrock V, Endeavour and Velsheda glided by almost effortlessly but deceptively fast as they towered over the spectator yachts.

The most common adjective that is used by those who have sailed on the existing J-CLASS yachts from the 1930s is the word "awsome".  The immense sail area and sheer power cannot easily be described and the speed, slicing effortlessly like a knife through butter and their ability to turn almost in their own length is incredible.

Yachts like this were never built again because of the tremendous cost in building them.  Instead, 12 meter yachts replaced them.
